According to Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, the nation's most significant problem is a lack of effective leadership.
This was said by the former two-term governor of Anambra State on Wednesday at an LP rally in Calabar, Cross River State.
At the UJ Esuene Stadium, the demonstration location, Obi was greeted by a crowd of supporters. Earlier, he attended a town hall meeting with the teenagers.
After that, he visited His Eminence, Ekpo Abasi-Otu V, the Obong of Calabar, for a courtesy visit.
He promised to maintain law and order, safeguard the nation, and bring it together if elected.
He promised that his administration would ensure the nation's institutions operated efficiently and without frequent strikes.
Obi continued by outlining his vision for the growth of Cross River State.
He says, “The state has cocoa; we will develop it and ensure we export it.
“We will also boost the state's tourism potential because it is Nigeria's tourism capital.
“We want to make Nigeria work.
“You can trust us.
“Don’t vote for people you cannot trust to turn around the nation.”
Also, a party chieftain, Prof. Pat Utomi, said a new Nigeria is possible but would start with Nigerians voting for the right person in 2023.
Utomi said the country’s challenges had persisted because the people kept electing leaders that did not care for the citizens.
He also said that the Permanent Voter Cards and voting rights could change the story.
The National President of the party, Julius Abure, also spoke similarly.
Abure said that poor leadership choices contributed largely to Nigeria’s development problem.
He appealed to Nigerians to make the right choice in 2023 by voting for the party’s candidates at all levels.
Human Right Activist Aisha Yesufu said it was time for the electorate to vote the right persons into power.
Yusuf said that the 2023 election would determine the country's survival and urged all Nigerians to be part of it.
She said: “The polling unit is our new protest ground.
“We will vote, wait to defend our votes and ensure that Obi and his running mate, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, are our leaders in 2023.”
