SERAP demands release of detained journalist in #EndSARSMemorial campaign

The Nigerian Police Force has been asked to release a journalist and other protesters arrested at the Lekki Tollgate on Wednesday, according to the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project.

SERAP issued a statement on its official Twitter account, urging authorities to release those who have been detained while also stating that they have the right to protest.

"Nigerian authorities must release two protesters, including a journalist, who were reportedly arrested this morning by the Lagos State Police Command at the Lekki tollgate, where the #EndSARSMemorial protest is scheduled to take place," the statement reads. Protesting is a legal right."

The protesters marched to the Lekki toll gate in a car procession to commemorate the alleged killings of Nigerians on the same day last year. Nigerian police officers, on the other hand, have been arresting peaceful protesters.
