Sevilla explains how Kounde escaped Chelsea's grasp.
Before Barcelona's rise to prominence and the truncation that has left the Blues faithful in total sadness, Jules Kounde's transfer to Chelsea was supposed to be finalised.

After beating Chelsea to the signing of Raphinha earlier in the summer transfer window, Barcelona thwarted Chelsea's efforts to sign Kounde.

Sevilla explained the details of the Kounde transaction and what transpired between the clubs on Friday.
Why did Kounde choose Barcelona over Chelsea?

In an interview on Friday, Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo, a.k.a. Monchi, Sevilla's director of football, went over the specifics of the agreement.

“This would have been the third time we’d have told him no. He’s a professional but you have to consider the person as well,” Monchi said.

“On Thursday night Koundé was ‘sold’ to Chelsea. They began to have doubts and pulled out.

“Then Barcelona appeared. The first time Alemany got in contact was on Monday.

“We received an offer that was lower than what we had in mind, but we renegotiated with them and reached an agreement for a club-record sale.

“Chelsea came back again, but Barcelona’s offer was better,” he said.

Chelsea supporters are upset with the deals Barcelona has made so far at the expense of the London club.
