Seun Oloketuyi, the executive producer of the Best of Nollywood Awards, or BON Awards, has explained why the 2022 edition of the travelling award show will be held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
The explanations were reaffirmed in a statement that Oloketuyi signed, released, and made available to the media on Thursday.
Oloketuyi said that without Imo State and Iweka Road, which served as a key distribution hub for Nollywood productions during the peak of digital video disc sales, the history of Nollywood would be incomplete.
An excellent opportunity for Nollywood professionals to recognise the good work that Governor Hope Uzodinma has been doing since taking office two years ago to ensure that the Nigerian make-believe industry thrives in the state is also provided by hosting the prestigious awards ceremony in the state; he continued.
It is undeniable that Nollywood practitioners are eagerly preparing to be a part of the event with the announcement of the nominees' list on October 15 and Francis Onwochei, a seasoned Nollywood practitioner, as the new head of the jury, he added.
On December 3, 2022, the state government-recently rebuilt International Conference Centre will host the BON Awards for this year.
Oloketuyi said: "We've taken the 14th edition of the awards event a notch higher by ensuring that it's at par with the best of what is obtainable in the world and it can only get better from here."
