According to information, soldiers engaged Boko Haram militants yesterday on the Damboa-Maiduguri Highway.
When the terrorists in an ambush suddenly opened fire on the vehicles, Operation Hadin KAI soldiers were allegedly escorting a large number of commercial vehicles carrying traders and other travellers on their way from Damboa to Maiduguri.
According to a local source, the assault happened in Yaleri village off Damboa Road.
The incident was confirmed by Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency specialist and security analyst in the Lake Chad region. He claimed that the situation was chaotic and that many travellers were scurrying for safety.
Police in Borno also confirmed the escape of the six security personnel abducted by ISWAP terrorists in Benishek on Monday, Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar, said yesterday in Maiduguri.
“The terrorists abducted the six security operatives including one policeman, three CJTF and three hunters. They also carted away one Hilux patrol vehicle and we also lost one AK47 rifle.
