Thursday's Ultimate Golf Challenge third-round winner, Vincent Torgah, was the star of the show. The Ghanaian won by seven strokes after shooting a final-round 68, three strokes under par, for a 135 overall after 36 holes.
Torgah won the renowned tournament with scores of 67 in the preliminary round and 68 in the final round. For his efforts, he received N3m, the competition's grand prize.
Torgah, who lost in 2021 but won this time, credited his success to the lessons he learned from that setback.
“I did well last year, but a missed putt on the closing hole stopped my dream then. This time around, I came back stronger and won. Ultimate Golf Challenge is a great tournament and highly competitive. I am happy winning it”, he said.
An Ikoyi Club 1938 golf team member, Vincent Ikemefuna, finished in second place after shooting a final round 69 for a 1-under par 141 total.
Tokunbo Pedro, the USPGA professional who was the tournament’s inspiration, played well throughout, tied for second with Ikemefuna after opening with a 1-over 72 and closing with a -2under 69.
Chukwudi Okoro, a member of the Benin Golf Club and Port-Will Harcourt’s Gift, is also tied for second place.
Since Olufemi Pedro is the tournament’s grand patron, he has promised that future iterations of the Ultimate Golf Challenge will be improved in every way.
Thrilled at the contest’s final results, Akin Semowo, chairman of the Ultimate Golf Challenge’s organising committee, stated the tournament’s continuation is a top priority, as is the committee’s original mission to raise the profile of professional golf in Nigeria.
