Prior to the 2023 general election, which is slated to take place in February, the Edo State Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that 661,783 Permanent Voters Cards (PVC), both old and new, had not yet been collected in the state as of December 31, 2022.
According to a statement made by Mr Timidi Wariowei, INEC's Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Edo, 409,832 of the total are old PVCs that haven't been collected, while 251,951 are new uncollected PVCs that the commission has received.
“The uncollected old PVCs were 425,239 but 15,407 have been collected remaining the balance of 409,832. Also, the new PVCs received were 289,931 but 37,980 have been collected remaining the balance of 251,951.”
Wariowei further disclosed that 460 PVCs were collected on January 1, across the local government areas in the state.
He explained that the collection of PVC is ongoing on daily basis including Saturdays and Sundays (excluding public holidays) from 9 am to 3 pm at INEC offices across the 18 local governments.
