The heads of state of Nigeria's 36 states have summoned the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to answer questions about the bank's withdrawal policy and the recently introduced naira notes.
The Nigeria Governors' Forum announced on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, through spokesman Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, that the scheduled meeting would now take place on Thursday, January 19, 2023.
The spokesman stated that the most recent naira redesign and the NGF's pullout strategy would be covered in the virtual meeting in reference to Asishana Okauru, the Director General of the NGF.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) advised Nigerians to deposit their old notes in banks by January 31 of this year after announcing a redesign of the naira in October of last year (2023).
There were rumours last night that Emefiele's Maitama residence was under siege by a squad of heavily armed police policemen.
Emefiele will show up tomorrow, on Wednesday, at the Federal High Court in Abuja to respond to a $53 million judgement requirement associated with the Paris Club return. Accordingly, the siege started in advance of his appearance.
