Okowa Condemns Edo Train Station Attack

Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State and vice presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), condemned last Saturday's attack and kidnapping of passengers at a train sub-station in Igueben, Edo State, calling it "sad and regrettable."

Speaking on Sunday in Asaba via his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Olisa Ifeajika, the governor stated that gunmen's actions continue to be a troubling phenomenon throughout the nation.

He gave security agencies the task of finding the intruders and rescuing the victims while also tracking them down.

In order for security forces to properly police the nation, Okowa also encouraged Nigerians to rise to the occasion and provide them with pertinent information.

He called on the Federal Government to stop toying with the lives of the citizens and to do away with “its lethargic attitude and cosmetic approach” to fighting insecurity in the country.

Okowa said, “As a country, we must be deeply concerned about the activities of armed groups and non-state actors trying to destabilise our nation.

”With the general election a few weeks away, this dastardly act is not just worrisome but condemnable; and, we urge security agencies to quickly track and apprehend the gunmen and rescue the victims.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I sympathise with the authorities of the Nigerian Railway Corporation and families of the kidnapped intending passengers at the train station. Jj

”Our thoughts and prayers are with their families at this difficult time and we pray for the early return of the victims to reunite with their families,” Okowa stated.
