At least 30 captives were freed from the Toto Local Government Area by a joint effort by Nasarawa State Police Command officers and Miyetti Allah Vigilante Group members.
Rahman Nansel, the command's police public relations officer, revealed this in a statement Friday that was made available to reporters in Lafia.
He stated, “On January 12, 2023, information was received that suspected kidnappers were sighted at Sardauna Forest of Toto Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, where they held victims, hostage.
“In reaction to the unwholesome occurrence, a combined operation was carried out by operatives of the command in partnership with Miyetti Allah Vigilante Group of Toto LGA.
“The kidnappers were nevertheless traced to their hideaway at Sardauna Forest, and on sighting the operatives, the crooks dispersed in disorder deep into the forest.
“Consequently, thirty (30) kidnapped victims comprising of 20 males and 10 females were rescued unhurt and transferred to the hospital for medical inspection and shall be reunited with their family following debriefing.”
Nansel stated that the Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Baba, complimented the heroic work of the police operatives and Miyetti Allah Vigilante Group for a job well done and directed the continual combing of all the bushes and woodland across the 13 LGAs of the state.
