Tuesday, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria, welcomed a delegation of representatives from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Election Monitoring Team, including ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, to his residence in Abuja.
The delegation included former President of Ghana, John Mahama, who served during the same period as Jonathan and also lost his reelection bid.
Tinubu, who is currently leading in the results of Nigeria's presidential election, was reportedly in high spirits as he received his guests. It is unclear what the purpose of the meeting was, but it is possible that the delegation was seeking to discuss the ongoing election process in Nigeria and ensure that it is free, fair, and transparent.
This meeting is significant given the history between Tinubu and Jonathan. In the 2015 presidential election, Jonathan defeated the APC candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, who was backed by Tinubu. However, in the current election, Tinubu has emerged as the front-runner and is seen by many as a potential successor to the incumbent President Buhari.
