Bauchi governorship election: PDP's Bala Mohammed declared winner
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of Bauchi's March 18 governorship election. The returning officer, Abdulkareem Sabo Muhammad, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutse, announced the results on Monday after the collation. Mohammed defeated his closest rival, Sadiq Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with 525,280 votes, while Abubakar polled 432,272.

Mohammed, the incumbent governor, won in 14 local government areas of the state, including Shira, Zaki, Dambam, Tafawa Balewa, Toro, Ganjuwa, Bogoro, Itas Gadau, Ningi, Jama’are, Warji, Alkaleri, Kirfi, and Dass. Meanwhile, Abubakar of the APC won in Misau, Katagum, Gamawa, Darazo, and Giade's local government areas.

After the announcement of the results, supporters of the PDP took to the streets to celebrate the victory of Mohammed. The governor thanked the people of Bauchi State for their support and promised to work for the development of the state.

The election in Bauchi was initially declared inconclusive due to the cancellation of votes in some polling units, but a re-run was held in those units on March 23, which led to the final result.
