Garba Ahmad assumes duty as Yobe police commissioner
Garba Ahmad has taken over as the new police commissioner of the Yobe command. According to DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command’s spokesman, the new commissioner assumed duty on Tuesday. Ahmad takes over from CP Haruna Garba, becoming the 32nd police commissioner since the creation of the command.

Ahmad joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a cadet’s assistant superintendent of police and was a member of Course 3 intakes. He rose through the ranks to become the police commissioner, serving in various capacities and strategic offices in states including Borno, Ebonyi, Kaduna, FCT, Adamawa, Gombe, Enugu, and Oyo.

In his inaugural speech, the new commissioner assured the people of Yobe of his commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, while calling for the cooperation of all stakeholders.

He said, “I am here to partner with you all and solicit your support and cooperation towards actualising our collective mandate of providing safety and security to the good people of Yobe state.”

The commissioner also pledged to uphold the rule of law and human rights in the discharge of his duties, while urging officers and men of the command to remain professional and disciplined.

He said, “I promise to run an open-door policy, provide a conducive working environment for my officers, and ensure that their welfare is given the desired attention.”

The Yobe police command has been faced with a myriad of security challenges, including attacks by Boko Haram terrorists and bandits. The new commissioner’s appointment comes at a critical time, and his experience in handling security matters in different states could prove invaluable in addressing the security challenges facing the state.

The command’s spokesman, Abdulkarim, urged the public to support the new commissioner in the discharge of his duties while assuring them of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.

He said, “The command, under the leadership of CP Garba Ahmad, is poised to redouble its efforts towards the protection of lives and property of the citizens of Yobe state. We urge the good people of Yobe to give the new commissioner their maximum support and cooperation to enable him to succeed in his assignment.”

Ahmad’s appointment has been greeted with optimism by stakeholders in the state, who expressed confidence in his ability to tackle the security challenges facing the state.
