In a distressing turn of events, some residents of the Command Area in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State found themselves and their vehicles trapped in a flood that overran the major bridge in the area on Tuesday.
Images and videos obtained from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) depicted the struggle of the residents as they attempted to navigate the flooded route during their daily routines.
Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA's South-West public relations officer, confirmed the incident and assured that relevant authorities are making efforts to rescue the trapped victims. He said, “The residents of Command Area are urged to take alternative routes by avoiding Command and the near areas as flood have overran the bridge. NEMA, Fire Service and Police are working to get trapped people out of the area presently."
According to Prime 9ja Online, residents of Lagos, who had been enduring a severe heat wave for weeks, were relieved when heavy rain fell on Tuesday. However, the ensuing floods, which submerged some communities in the city, brought little cheer to the citizens.
The Abattoir area in Agege was another community that felt the impact of the flood. This incident underscores the urgent need for effective flood management strategies in the city to prevent such occurrences and ensure the safety of its residents.
