In a recent development, Vice President Kashim Shettima confirmed the interception of 45 trucks transporting maize to neighbouring countries. The disclosure was made during a conference on Public Wealth Management held in Abuja on Tuesday.
“Just three nights ago, 45 trucks of maize were caught being transported to neighbouring countries. Just in that Ilela axis, there are 32 illegal smuggling routes,” the VP said.
Shettima further elaborated on the aftermath of the interception. He noted that the price of maize, the primary grain being transported, experienced a significant drop of N10,000, plummeting from N60,000 to N50,000.
The Vice President expressed concern over individuals who are determined to undermine the government. However, he urged Nigerians to unite and work together as a single entity.
In response to the ongoing situation, the Federal Government is implementing various measures to ensure food security across the country. This move is seen as a crucial step towards stabilising the nation's economy and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
