Ohanaeze Ndigbo Backs Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road Project

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading socio-cultural organisation of the Igbo community, has expressed its support for the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, championed by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, voiced his approval following the Federal Executive Council's sanctioning of a N1.067 trillion contract for the initial phase of the coastal road.

In a statement he signed, Isiguzoro highlighted the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway as a significant step towards national development and unity.

The statement read, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphatically endorses the 700km Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, recognising its potential to enhance tourism and agriculture.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo calls on all stakeholders to uphold integrity and transparency in the execution of public projects, echoing the need for durable infrastructure that reflects the highest standards.

“We demand a departure from the era of substandard roads constructed by unscrupulous contractors, urging the Federal Government to enlist competent indigenous contractors for the construction of these critical highways.

“The Federal Executive Council’s endorsement of a N1.067 trillion contract for the initial phase of the coastal route construction is a cause for celebration among Nigerians.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo urges detractors to cease their attempts at derailing this vital project and instead join hands in supporting initiatives that promise prosperity for all Nigerians.

“The construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway represents a significant milestone towards national development, and solidarity is key to its successful implementation.”
