Mrs. Zubaida Umar has been appointed as the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), as approved by President Bola Tinubu. This news was conveyed in a statement issued by Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, on Friday.
Mrs. Umar brings a wealth of experience to her new role, with over 20 years of work in diverse fields such as Human Resources, and Finance and Administration. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Credit Administration, and holds ACCA certifications in Public Financial Management and Digital & Sustainability Financing.
Before her appointment, Mrs. Umar served as the Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank. There, she was instrumental in driving the strategy and repositioning of the bank, successfully transforming the institution into a modern, digitized mortgage and financial service provider.
Ngelale stated that President Tinubu anticipates that Mrs. Umar, as the new Director-General, will bring the much-needed financial and operational discipline to NEMA. He expects her to reshape the agency into a performance-driven and proactive emergency response provider, with a focus on prevention and climate change readiness in the execution of its core mandate.
