The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Akwa Ibom State has ushered in a new era under the leadership of its 19th State Coordinator, Mr Christopher Okun. Mr Okun steps into the role following the redeployment of Mrs Chinyere Ekwe to the NYSC Area Office in Minna, Niger State, upon the completion of her tenure.
The announcement of this leadership transition was made in a statement signed by the NYSC Public Relations Officer, Mr Udogwu Madukaku, on Saturday. The statement revealed that Mr Okun previously held the position of Deputy Director (Operations) at the South South Area Office in Asaba, Delta State.
Mr Okun is an alumnus of the former Bendel State University, now known as Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State. He graduated in 1987 with a B.A. (Hons) in History. His academic background and extensive experience with the NYSC are expected to be invaluable assets in his new role.
The statement reads in part: “With this appointment, Mr Okun has become the 19th Chief Executive Officer/State Coordinator of the Scheme in Akwa Ibom State. The new State Coordinator is expected to bring his rich expertise in the course of his many years with the NYSC to bear on the activities of the scheme in the state and to move it to the next level."
In her handover note, Mrs Ekwe extended a warm welcome to Mr Okun, assuring him that he was in capable hands with the staff of NYSC Akwa Ibom, who had served diligently during her tenure.
The new state coordinator expressed his appreciation for Mrs Ekwe’s exemplary leadership and her nurturing approach towards the corps members. He wished her success in her new role at the NYSC Area Office in Minna, Niger State. As Mr Okun takes the helm, the NYSC Akwa Ibom looks forward to a new chapter of growth and development under his stewardship.
