ASUU Convenes Crucial NEC Meeting to Address Members' Welfare

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called a significant National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to deliberate on critical issues affecting its members' welfare. This meeting, set to take place at the ASUU Secretariat in Abuja, will include participation from principal and national officers, zonal coordinators, and branch chairmen.

Notifications have already been dispatched to all anticipated attendees, underscoring the importance of their presence. A national officer disclosed that the NEC members would review specific assignments allocated to zonal coordinators and branch chairmen during the previous meeting at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

While our source refrained from confirming whether the Federal Government had introduced any new items to the negotiation table or resolved any ongoing issues prompting this emergency NEC meeting, they did highlight several unresolved demands. "I am not aware of any new government positions on our demands. We have many outstanding demands that require the attention of the Federal Government. Several letters were written and no positive response," the source explained.

The officer expressed concern over the growing frustration among ASUU members, citing withheld salaries, unpaid academic earned allowances, and other unresolved matters affecting public universities across the country. "One thing that I can tell you is that our members are agitated over the withheld salaries, non-payment of the academic earned allowances, and other issues affecting public universities in the country, which the government has refused to address," he stated.
