The Department of State Service (DSS) has dismissed allegations that its operatives invaded the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters in Abuja, describing the claims as unfounded. This comes after the NLC accused security agents, including DSS personnel, of ransacking its office and seizing documents on Wednesday.
According to Benson Upah, NLC's Head of Media and Public Relations, the alleged invasion occurred around 8:30 pm, with the operatives claiming to search for seditious materials linked to the #EndBadGovernance protests. The NLC condemned the incident, stating that it was unprecedented even during military rule.
However, DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya refuted the allegations on Thursday, stating, "The Service (DSS) did not carry out any operation at the NLC office in Abuja." The denial comes amid ongoing protests and tensions between security forces and demonstrators.
The NLC had expressed concern over the incident, highlighting the absence of legal documentation permitting the invasion. The development has sparked concerns about the state of democracy in Nigeria, with the NLC describing it as a "sad day" for the country.
