Shehu Sani: 'Impeachment, Not Peace, Is the Goal'

Amid the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, former senator Shehu Sani has stated that the primary objective of the crisis is impeachment rather than reconciliation.

Sani made this assertion following recent developments in the state, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara was barred from accessing the Rivers State House of Assembly premises.

“The ultimate goal in Rivers is impeachment and not peace; what happens afterwards is left to God,” he remarked.

Governor Fubara faced restrictions on Wednesday when he attempted to enter the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters while legislators were in session. Reports indicate that the governor had gone to present the 2025 state budget but encountered a locked gate, preventing him from gaining entry.

The incident follows Fubara’s previous commitment to implementing the Supreme Court ruling, which requires the formal presentation of the 2024 budget.

Reacting to the situation, Governor Fubara accused the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, of deliberately evading communication.

According to Fubara, multiple calls were placed to Amaewhule before the incident, but the Speaker failed to respond. The governor’s inability to reach the legislative leadership has further intensified the ongoing political crisis in the state.
