Super Eagles Captain Stresses Urgency in World Cup Qualifiers

As Nigeria continues its quest for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, team captain William Troost-Ekong has issued a rallying call to his teammates, urging them to maintain focus and avoid any form of complacency ahead of their upcoming fixture against Zimbabwe.

The Super Eagles secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Rwanda in their last outing, with Victor Osimhen’s double sealing the win in Kigali. While the result provided a much-needed boost in the qualification campaign, Troost-Ekong has cautioned that the job is far from done.

"We are looking forward to a win. The three points are important to us. At this stage, we cannot afford to drop any more points.

Our aim is to take it one match at a time, collect three points here and there, and hope fervently that these will be enough to get us the ticket," he said in a statement released by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

With the Super Eagles currently positioned fourth in their qualification group, every match carries significant weight. Their next challenge comes against Zimbabwe, a team struggling at the bottom of the table. A victory in the upcoming clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium would strengthen Nigeria’s chances of securing a place in the world’s most prestigious football tournament.

Troost-Ekong’s message is clear—there is no room for complacency. The road to the World Cup remains a tough battle, and Nigeria must approach every match with maximum commitment to ensure they do not falter in their campaign.
