The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Interim Management Committee has appealed to Nigerian youths to avoid participating in the planned nationwide protest slated for October 20, 2025, citing potential security threats and an existing court order restraining the demonstration.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mr. Buhari Shehu, the NYCN said the Federal Government, through the Nigeria Police Force, had secured an order from the Federal High Court in Abuja prohibiting both the organizers and participants from proceeding with the protest.
The Council also referenced a security advisory issued by the United States Embassy in Abuja, which warned its citizens to stay away from potential protest areas — a move the NYCN said underscores the likelihood of unrest or security breaches.
“In light of this, we urge all Nigerian youths to exercise restraint and stay out of trouble. The planned protest could result in a breakdown of law and order, endangering lives and property,” the statement read.Mr. Shehu urged young Nigerians to prioritize peace, stability, and national unity, while channeling their concerns through lawful and constructive means.
“We implore Nigerian youths to explore peaceful and legal avenues to express their grievances. Our collective focus should be on maintaining unity and safeguarding our nation,” he said.Reaffirming the NYCN’s commitment to youth empowerment, peace, and national development, the statement called for cooperation among young citizens to ensure Nigeria remains stable and secure.
“We have no other country than Nigeria. It is our shared responsibility to protect and preserve it,” Shehu added.
