China Condemns Khamenei Killing

The Chinese government has criticised the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, describing the development as unacceptable and inconsistent with established international standards.

A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed Beijing’s position on Sunday while responding to enquiries concerning coordinated military operations conducted in Tehran by the United States and Israel. Iranian authorities have stated that the strikes resulted in Khamenei’s death.

According to the spokesperson, the action constitutes a serious infringement of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The official argued that targeting a nation’s leadership in such circumstances violates fundamental principles guiding relations between states.

The ministry further maintained that the reported strike contradicts the objectives and core provisions of the United Nations Charter, as well as broader international norms designed to maintain global order.

China reiterated its opposition to measures capable of heightening instability in the Middle East. The spokesperson said Beijing rejects any course of action that intensifies hostilities or risks widening the conflict.

The government called for an immediate halt to military operations and urged all parties to demonstrate restraint to prevent further escalation. It also appealed for coordinated diplomatic engagement by the international community aimed at reducing tensions.

Beijing emphasised that preserving regional stability remains critical, noting that prolonged confrontation could have far-reaching consequences beyond the Middle East.
