The General Manager, Lagos State Driver’s Institute, Afusat Tiamiyu, has highlighted the need to take more cars off roads to reduce the congestion associated with plying Lagos routes.
In an interview with our correspondent, Tiamiyu stressed the need for Lagos to learn from other cities in a bid to improve its transport system.
She said, “In order to improve Lagos transport system, we will need to learn from other cities, for instance, London.
“The main challenge we have in Lagos is that a lot of people own cars which is a good thing. But if we can have the Bus Rapid Transport functioning optimally, then people will not need to bring out their cars.”
She argued that the procurement of more high capacity buses by the state government and private sector should encourage people not to bring out their cars as it would help in saving costs and reducing vehicles running costs.
The LASDRI boss said the idea would help improve individual health and safety as well as propel economic growth.
