The Director-General, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Mr Lanre Gbajabiamila, in a statement on Monday, said new technology-based measures were employed through information and intelligence sharing with the relevant agencies and arms of government to bring sanity to the industry.
Gbajabiamila, according to the statement, spoke on the sideline of a workshop in Nasarawa on ‘Effects of Hate Speech, Fake News, Financial and Cybercrimes on National Security.’
He was represented by the Head of Public Affairs at the commission, Mr Magnus Ekechukwu.
He said the commission had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit and the National Lottery Trust Fund.
Gbajabiamila said, “The objectives of the recently signed MoU with the agencies are to strengthen and ensure transparency in the Nigerian lottery industry; facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise through training; and promote a better understanding of economic and legal conditions relevant to the enforcement of applicable laws and statutes.
“The MoU will equally aid the establishment of a framework for the protection of lottery and financial stakeholders in relation to the lottery-based activities undertaken by lottery operators and their partners and as well facilitate research and education measures to increase efficiency and staff exchange programmes.”
