The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has attributed his slump at the State House to dehydration.

Bawa was giving his goodwill speech when he asked to be excused as he could not continue with the address.

Speaking on Thursday evening, the EFCC chairman said the doctor told him he was dehydrated and had to be mindful of his water intake.

He said he left the hospital for his office to clear his desk and catch some rest.

Newsmen had reported that Bawa while speaking on cybercrime, was narrating how the commission arrested a person in Ibadan when he paused, rubbed his eyes and face, staggered a bit on the stage and finally said he needs to stop.

Immediately Bawa left for his seat, the dignitaries at the event, including the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, stood up and held him as he sat on his seat before he was led out of the hall.

During his address, Pantami said Bawa was stable, adding that Bawa might have been buckling a little under the immense pressure that comes with his office.

In a statement later in the evening, the EFCC said its chairman is hale and hearty. It said Bawa had received medical treatment after feeling unwell during the event.
