In coordinated raids in notorious Lagos drug joints in Ekiti and other states, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and officers of the Nigeria Army (NA) arrested suspected fake police officers, soldiers corps members, and about 660 other suspects.
The NDLEA recently destroyed 153,256kg of various drugs in the Ekiti forest.
On Wednesday, October 13, a suspected fake soldier, Abel John, was arrested with 3.5kg of cannabis along the Apir-Makurdi-Aliade road, while in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, a suspected fake Assistant Superintendent of Police, Joshua Yusuf, who claimed to be serving in Kano, was arrested with 45.5kg of cannabis along the Gwagwalada expressway.
The arrests were confirmed by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, who said the agency raided notorious drug joints in Lagos, Abuja, Benue, and other parts of the country in the past week, destroying or seizing assorted illicit drugs weighing over 153,256.876 kilograms.
According to him, on Friday, October 15, a joint team of 70 NDLEA operatives and 30 soldiers raided Akala, a notorious drug haven in Lagos' Mushin area, in a joint operation code-named 'Operation Still Waters.'
“A total of 27 suspects were apprehended, and various drugs such as Cocaine, Heroin, Tramadol, Rohypnol, and Cannabis, totaling 2,463.876 kilograms, were seized,” he said.
Six people were arrested and various quantities of drugs were seized during the raids in the Ojo and Maryland areas of the state.
This came after a raid on Alhaji Lasisi Street, Idioro, Mushin, and Okota in the Oshodi-Isolo area of the state, which resulted in the arrest of 12 suspects and the recovery of over 165kg of illicit drugs.
On Friday, October 15, operatives in Ogun State intercepted one Williams Esuabom on the Ore-Shagamu expressway with 562.5kg of marijuana being transported in a Toyota Sienna bus. While in Benue State, narcotic officers and soldiers raided Lafia Park, arresting six suspects, including a youth corps member named Paul Ndubuisi, with various amounts of drugs.
