Adamawa State has scheduled its local government election for April 9, 2022.
The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) indicated this in the election timetable obtained by our correspondent on Thursday.
This is the third date that ADSIEC has fixed in its attempt at organising an election to pick chairmen and councillors for the 21 LGAs of Adamawa State, after first scheduling the election last year for November 27 and then postponing it to December 4 and eventually postponing it indefinitely, citing insufficient resources.
In the timetable for the fresh effort signed by ADSIEC Executive Chairman, Alhaji Isa Shettima and made available to newsmen by Information Officer, Innocent Zira, ADSIEC said as part of activities towards the successful conduct of the election this time, the commission has slated 24th January 2022 for meeting with chairmen and secretaries of the registered political parties at its headquarters in Yola.
The commission has also fixed 14th to 19th February for party primaries at ward and local government levels, while 21st to 25th February is for collection of nomination forms by candidates.
Submission of completed nomination forms is scheduled for 25th February to 4th March.
The establishment of state and LG screening committees/inauguration by the commission come up on the 7th to 8th March, and the resignation of public officers wishing to contest is fixed for 9th March.
According to ADSIEC, 14th to 16th March 2022 is for the screening of candidates fielded by registered political parties, while 17th to 19th March is for the display of names of successfully screened candidates.
The commission schedules 21st to 22nd March for receiving and considering petitions from aspirants adjudged not qualified to contest as well as screening/substitution of candidates where the need arises.
Election campaigns are billed for the 23rd March to 8th April, leading up to the April 9 fixed for the election proper.
