Nigeria is the second most corrupt country in West Africa, after Guinea, according to Transparency International.
Nigeria slipped five places in the 2021 Corruption Perceptions Index released by Transparency International on Tuesday, receiving 24 out of 100 points.
This is despite the Federal Government's stated commitment to fighting corruption.
Nigeria is currently ranked 154th out of 180 countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index for 2021, down from 149th in the previous index.
"Nigeria ranks 154 out of 180 countries and territories in the Corruption Perceptions Index 2021, down five places from 149 in 2020.
"Transparency International's 2021 Corruption Perceptions Index, issued today, shows that corruption in Nigeria is on the rise.
On Tuesday, the organization wrote on its official Twitter handle @TransparencITng, "The country got 24 out of 100 points in the #CPI2021, which is one point lower than the score of 2020."
Nigeria has been in a downward spiral on the TI's CPI for the second year in a row.
The country's score declined from 26 in 2019 to 25 in 2020, and then to 24 in the most recent 2021 assessment.
The CPI is a metric developed by TI to assess the amount of corruption in various countries' systems.
