Romelu Lukaku, a striker for Chelsea, returned to Inter on loan on Wednesday, fulfilling a wish of his.

During a notorious interview with Sky Sport Italia in December of last year, Lukaku indicated his desire to return to Inter.

Lukaku expressed his sincere desire to rejoin Inter while he was still performing at his best so that they could continue to win championships.

Lukaku is back at Inter six months after the interview and a year after Chelsea added him to the list of the ten most expensive transfers in history.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and the BBC, the Nerazzurri have signed the striker on loan for 8 million euros plus 2 million euros in bonuses.

Lukaku also decreased his salary to make the transfer easier; Inter will pay the difference in full.

After making 15 appearances with no goals between 2011 and 2014, Lukaku's second stint at Chelsea didn't go as planned.

In 44 appearances, the Belgian scored 15 goals, only eight of which came in 26 Premier League games.

As a result of Lukaku's interview, which all but sealed his fate under Tuchel, the trade never materialised for Chelsea, and he has since returned to the team where he excelled.

Lukaku was able to score over 30 goals in each of his two seasons at Inter under Antonio Conte (34 in 2019–20 and 30 in 2020–21).

With Lukaku scoring 24 goals in the league, the latter assisted Inter in capturing their 19th Scudetto.
