Owing to the worsening insecurity in the country, it is often said that many can hardly go to bed with their two eyes closed. Some Nigerians, including Clergymen, have been recently abducted and killed. This situation has prompted some states to advise residents to acquire arms to defend themselves.
Some kidnapped victims said there is a need to arrest the situation. They, however, expressed reservations over the acquisition of arms by the citizenry.
Some security experts called on security agencies to wake up to their responsibilities by putting types of machinery in place to tackle the problem. They also urged the government to provide employment and improve the remuneration and welfare of police officers in the country.
Meanwhile, the Military High Command has rejected the call by some state governments for residents to take up arms and defend themselves against bandits and terrorists.
