
On Thursday morning, the mystery gunmen tormenting South-East Nigeria struck again, attacking a police checkpoint along the Enugu PortHacourt expressway and killing two police officers on patrol.
The heavily armed hoodlums ambushed the police officers assigned to the Awkunanaw police division in Enugu South Local Government Area and began fire on them after randomly shooting in the air.
Apart from the two who died quickly as a result of the close-range bullets, African Examiner learned that several of the security guys got varying degrees of gunshot injuries during the incident, which occurred at about 9:3o a.m.
As at the time of reporting this report, the victims' lifeless bodies had been evacuated by soldiers and police officers on patrol, while the injured had been transferred to an unidentified medical facility.
Attempts to speak with Enugu State police public relations officer PPRO Daniel Ndukwe over the phone when reached by our correspondent failed, as he only gave this to him.
