Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was named the winner of the Osun governorship election conducted on Saturday, July 16, 2022.
Adeleke obtained 403,371 votes for the PDP, while Oyetola and the APC obtained 375,027 votes, and Lasun Yusuf of the Labour Party, LP obtained 2,729 votes.

Adeleke won 17 local government areas to Oyetola's 13 in order to return the stated votes.
The returning officer for the election, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, declared Adeleke the winner after she received the most lawfully available votes in the poll.
"I Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, hereby affirmed that I am the returning officer for the governorship election held on Saturday, July 16 and the candidate polled the following votes," the returning officer said in announcing the results.
"I announce that Ademola Adeleke Jackson Nurudeen has completed the legal conditions and is hereby proclaimed the winner and returned elected."

All of the party agents signed the result. Adeleke ran for governor against the incumbent in 2018, but lost by about 350 votes.

In response to the declaration, PDP Caretaker Chairman Dr Akindele Adekunle characterized the result as a win for the entire state's population.
"Though it was expected because we had been to every nook and cranny of the state selling our candidate to a populace that craved change, which they demonstrated at the polls."

We shall not disappoint the people. They have faith in us, and it is our responsibility to repay that faith.
