Senator Danjuma Goje, who represents the Gombe Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, yesterday started distributing 12,000 bags of NPK fertiliser worth N258 million to farmers, districts, and village chiefs in the Gombe State local governments of Akko and Yamaltu Deba.

Goje stated that the beneficiaries of the distribution, which took place in his Gombe home, included emirs, district heads, ward heads, village heads, women, youth organisations, and farmers in the senatorial area.

He stated that 254 ward chiefs would receive two bags apiece, and that 74 district heads in the centre zone would receive three bags each.

He said there are 2, 537 village heads in the senatorial district and each of them would be given one bag of fertiliser.

“Twenty trucks of fertiliser totalling 12, 000 bags have been purchased. These will be distributed to our constituents. The gesture is meant to bring succour to them, especially in this rainy season when the price of the commodity is high.

“Our desire is to empower our people economically. In recent times, we donated 1, 000 tricycles and many motorcycles free to our youths for commercial use. The gesture was aimed at assisting them to be self-reliant,” he said.

Goje urged the recipients to make sure the fertilisers were applied to increase food production in the region and the nation.

In order to ease the financial difficulty that many people are currently experiencing, he contends that individuals, particularly farmers, ought to be pushed to produce more food.

He continued by saying that the biting effects of inflation and the economic downturn would be significantly lessened once the nation was self-sufficient in the production of food.
