In order to increase security in advance of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Usman Baba, the inspector general of police (IGP), has ordered rigorous stop-and-search operations.

The development was revealed by the force's spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday.

He added that the IGP asked Nigerians to maintain a security-conscious attitude and alert security authorities to any suspicious people, movements, or activities in order to receive immediate assistance.

The announcement states that ongoing efforts will be made to reduce crime and criminality and enhance public safety and security throughout the nation by Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba, psc (+), NPM, fdc.

In order to prevent any unfavorable situations in their Areas of Responsibility (AoR) during the Eid-el-Kabir season and beyond, the IGP equally charged Commissioners of Police (CPs), Tactical Commanders, and their supervising Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) in all the States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

"The IGP has instructed the supervising AIGs and their respective CPs to ensure adequate deployment of officers and assets to deter crime and criminality and to foster public trust in law enforcement.

"The Police Boss urged police officers and men to critically assess threat-prone regions, conduct thorough stop and searches, conduct raids on "black spots," and engage in other anti-crime methods capable of sustaining peace and public safety in Nigeria.

"The IGP also issued a warning that the employees on the ground must act professionally, respect citizens' fundamental rights, and carry out their duties with vigilance.

"The IGP encouraged people to celebrate and take in the beauty of the Eid-el-Kabir while remaining security cautious," reads a statement from the IGP on the occasion of the 2022 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
