Voters have been spotted acting in an orderly manner as they wait to cast their votes in the Osun gubernatorial election, which has resulted in a relatively calm start to election day in Osun.  The Osogbo NURTW leader, Kazeem Oyewale, nicknamed Asiri Eniba, was detained by a detachment of the Nigerian Army at his Ojurin, Old Garage office on Friday, July 16, 2022, according to PRIME9JAONLINEMEDIA.  The Osun State Police Command afterwards paraded Oyewale and a few of his boys who had also been detained in the evening.

Many believed that Oyewale's detention was related to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) numerous accusations that he was responsible for inciting violence in the majority of the state capital of Osogbo.  In addition, when suspected thugs alleged to be acting on his orders attacked the PDP entourage as it paid a visit to the monarch in his palace in Osogbo, an enraged Ataoja of Osogbo named Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Larooye threatened to curse the Osogbo NURTW chief.

Voter accreditation had begun at Ward 4, Polling Units 17, 18, 19, and 20 as of the time this report was made.  Speaking with PRIME9JAONLINEMEDIA, voters expressed confidence that the election will be calm and free of any incident of violence.
