SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command's spokesman, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday while reacting to the incident.
According to NAN, thugs invaded the INEC CVR center located at St. Bridget Catholic Church, ljesha, in Surulere on Friday and stole INEC enrollment machines.
Hundeyin, on the other hand, stated that when police received information about the presence of some INEC officials in a church, the DPO, police division in Ijeshatedo, swung into action and brought the INEC officials and materials to the station.
He stated that the DPO decided to bring the officials and others to the station because the church was not conducive to such an investigation, in order to prevent a breakdown in law and order.
The spokesman stated that following the DPO's findings, there was an address location mix-up, and he requested that INEC officials relocate to the correct address.
Hundeyin stated that the police, not hoodlums, were the ones who carried INEC materials and officials out of the church.
"For the exercise, INEC officials were assigned to Imam Thani Street by House No. 9A." They were, however, discovered on the church grounds. Residents expressed their concerns and contacted the police.
"Preliminary findings indicate that a resident of the area who volunteered to transport the officials from their office to the center was responsible for the mix-up, whether intentional or not."
"Meanwhile, the officials were immediately released to proceed to the correct center to continue their assignment," he said. (NAN)
