Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had successful surgery on Saturday at a hospital in Lagos, according to the Presidency.

Osinbajo was notified already that preparations were being made for the procedure by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande.

He claimed that the need for the surgery was due to a persistent ache in his leg, which was likely brought on by a injury got from playing squash.

"VP Osinbajo is undergoing surgery today at the hospital due to recurring leg pain that may have resulted from an injury gotten while playing squash. Later today, his doctors would provide an update on his therapy, according to the tweet.

After the operation, Akande tweeted that it had been successful and added that the Vice President was awake and feeling well.

"Doctors who operated on Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, to alleviate the chronic pain brought on by a leg fracture have finished the procedure, and it was successful, according to the doctors.

The statement added, "The Vice President is also alert and healthy."

The Presidency also quoted a statement from Duchess International Hospital administrators indicating that Osinbajo would remain in the hospital for a few more days after the treatment.

His Excellency Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was admitted to the Duchess International Hospital GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, today due to a fracture of his right femur (thigh bone), which may be connected to a chronic injury sustained during a squash match.

Dr. Wallace Ogufere, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Om Lahoti, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Babajide Lawson, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Ken Adegoke, Consultant in Anaesthesia & Critical Care, Dr. Oladimeji Agbabiaka, Consultant Anaesthetist, and Dr. Adedoyin Dosunmu-Ogunbi  (Consultant Physician & Medical Director) performed the surgical procedure on him.

Dr. Adedoyin Dosunmu-Ogunbi, the hospital's medical director, made a statement that read, "The operation was successful, and he is anticipated to be discharged within the next few days."
