A party of representatives from Manchester United is scheduled to meet with Ajax CEO Edwin van der Sar today for "final negotiations," with the goal of concluding a £46 million deal for defender Lisandro Martinez on Wednesday.
Three offers from Manchester United have been rejected by Ajax, who are holding out for about £46 million.
Martinez has already pleaded with his club to accept an offer last week by making it clear that he is willing to go on strike to force through a move. Martinez is desperate to join Man United.
Arsenal, a Man United Premier League rival, had also made two proposals for the 24-year-old star, and Ajax planned to start a bidding war with them.
However, according to the Dutch publication De Telegraaf, Ajax has come to terms with the fact that the Argentine's time at the team is done and is ready to transfer him this summer.
Martinez was valued at around £46 million by Ajax, and Man United's most recent offer of about £43 million fell just £3 million short of that sum. However, they are reportedly prepared to pay the full asking price.
Both parties are happy with that sum, especially Man United manager Erik ten Hag, who is eager to see his former player again at Old Trafford.
