Kola Kamaldeen, the zone six Calabar assistant inspector general of police, has stated that they will endeavour to keep everyone involved in the 2023 general election on their toes in order to achieve a peaceful election.
On Monday, Kamaldeen told reporters in Calabar that they had sent a message to political party leaders encouraging them to get ready for the general election.
“We have charged all parties to educate their supporters and members on why peaceful elections are very important for Nigeria.
“We’ll work to keep all election players on their toes on the need for a violent-free election next year.
“We want to stand out tall and proud as the leading security agency in election duties in the country,” he said.
Using the most recent governorship elections in the states of Anambra, Osun, and Ekiti as examples, Kamaldeen claimed that the conduct of Nigerians during those proceedings demonstrated that the nation was gradually moving toward a state where peaceful elections were possible in Nigeria.
He gave the assurance that the police will effectively carry out their duties throughout the election to lessen thugs and violence.
