Saliba posts man-of-the-match display as Arsenal defeat Crystal Palace in Premier League opener
Mikel Arteta needed two loan transfers to Ligue 1 for William Saliba to persuade him that he was ready for the tough competition of the Premier League, and he excelled on his debut.

The Frenchman's coolness is to thank for Arsenal's tenacious victory over Crystal Palace.

The players displayed a fantastic attitude and passion throughout the entire game, however it was a long cry from the usual Arsenal performance of crisp passing, penetrating runs, and pace.

Gabriel Martinelli, who was responsible for missing a golden opportunity during Arsenal's dominance in the first half, calmed the crowd by scoring Arsenal's first goal of the game in the 20th minute.

Olek Zinchenko's cushioned header from Bukayo Saka's corner kick was met by Martinelli, who outran Guaita to the far post.

Despite having a physical advantage and dominating the game in the second half, Arsenal's defence did a commendable job of handling long balls.

Bukayo Saka, who appeared to be the team's livelier player, would also be responsible for failing to take the lead on several instances.

How did star forward Gabriel Jesus perform?

Jesus fought valiantly until Eddie Nketiah replaced him late in the game.

The Palace defence was strong, and he fought bravely against them until the 80th minute, when he was replaced.

Arsenal supporters will hope that their star Brazilian will have better days when Nketiah, who replaced him, looks sharp.

How did Ebere Eze perform against Arsenal?
Eze coordinated the most of the team's offensive moves, displaying glimpses of what he can be for Palace when healthy.

With Eze, the Patrick Vieira-led Palace can improve this season. They have shown some potential.

Their Super Eagles-eligible midfielder displayed good touches and other qualities that have made him a fan favourite as they faced a significantly improved Arsenal squad without hiding.
