A Kano magistrates' court on Wednesday ruled that Jamilu Ahmed, 37, be kept in jail as punishment for allegedly killing his 30-year-old brother Alhassan by beating him.

Ahmed, who dwells in Kano's Chediyar Kuda Quarters, was accused of culpable homicide by the police.

Ahmed's request for a hearing was rejected by Magistrate Farouk Ibrahim-Umar.

Ibrahim-Umar gave the police the order to give the Kano State Director of Public Prosecution the case file so that they can seek legal counsel.

He set a new date for mention of September 8th.

Aminu Dandago, the prosecution's attorney, had informed the court that Ahmed committed the crime on February 13, 2022, in the Kano neighbourhood of Chediyar Kuda.

Dandago alleged that on the same date at about 10 p.m, Ahmed hit his younger brother repeatedly on the stomach during a misunderstanding.

He said the deceased sustained internal injuries and was taken to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano were he was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.

The offence, the prosecution said, contravened the provisions of Section 221 of the Penal Code.
