Two defendants have been remanded by a Makurdi Upper Area Court due to alleged illegal firearm possession.
Thomas Huna and Matthew Gbuusu are the defendants.
The two were directed to be held on remand at the Federal Maximum Correctional Center in Makurdi by the magistrate, Rose Iyorshe.
Earlier, Insp. Veronica Shaagee, the police prosecutor, said the court that a letter dated August 14 was used to transfer the matter from the Divisional Police Headquarters Naka, Gwer West, to the State CID, Makurdi.
Thomas Huna of Naka was detained after the DPO Naka Division got specific information, according to Shaagee. His home was also examined, and one round of ammo for an AK-47 weapon was found.
According to her, the accused then admitted that his gun was with Matthew Gbuusu, who lived at the same home.
“The said Gbuusu Mathew was also arrested and his house was searched and one locally made pistol was recovered from him,” the police prosecutor said.
Shaage said the defendants contravened Section 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act 2004.
She said investigations into the matter was still ongoing and requested for another date to complete it.
When the case, however, came up for mention, no plea was taken from the defendants for want of jurisdiction.
The Magistrate after adjourned the case until September 28 for further mention.
