The Delta State Ministry of Justice has started publishing the identities of convicted sex offenders in compliance with Section 5 of the Violence Against Persons Law 2020 as part of efforts to deter people from committing sexual crimes and other related offences.

The policy is intended to ensure that sexual offenders are identified and held accountable, according to Mrs. Uche Patricia Akamagwuna, head of the ministry's anti-sexual offences unit, who made this announcement in Asaba.

According to Mrs. Akamagwuna, their names will be made public on the Delta State Ministry of Justice's Sex Offenders Register, in the media, and in localities where they had previously lived.

The first group of sex offenders to be exposed is 46-year-old Osun State native Lukuman Yunusa, who once resided at No. 5 Jarret Street in Asaba.

Noting that his name had been entered in the Delta State Ministry of Justice Sex Offenders Register, he was found guilty and given a 25-year prison term at the Correctional Centre Ogwashi-uku.

Endurance Oyemike, a 44-year-old resident of Ogume in the Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the Delta State, is also mentioned.

Ogbe-Ogume, a previous resident of Ogbe-Echila Street, was incarcerated in the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kwale for rape and was presently serving a 10-year sentence with hard labour.

The convict has been duly registered in the State Ministry of Justice Sex Register.

One Friday Nweke, a 34 years old indigene of Odalekor village in Nkwor Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and formerly a resident of Transformer Camp , Ominigboma in Oko has also been registered.

Friday Nweke is presently serving a life imprisonment term at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Warri for the rape of a 6 year old girl.
