Tafa Balogun, a former inspector general of police who passed away in Lagos yesterday, will be buried in his hometown of Ila-Orangun, Osun state, on Wednesday.
His family made this information public.
The late Balogun, the 19th Inspector General of Police, passed away from a heart attack at the Reddington Hospital in Lagos at around 8:30 p.m.
Only three weeks remained till he turned 75.
At the palace of the Orangun of Ila, Alayeluwa, Oba Wahab Oyedotun, Bibire II, recently, the late Balogun was formally installed as the Oluomo of Igbomina in Ila-Orangun.
Born in Ila-Orangun, Osun State, on August 8, 1947, deceased Balogun was a cadet assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of course 3.
He held positions in numerous Police commands throughout the Federation. He served as Muhammadu Gambo's principal staff officer (PSO), the deputy commissioner of police for the state of Edo, the first commissioner of police for the state of Delta, and the chief of police for the states of Rivers and Abia.
On March 6, 2002, he was appointed the 19th Inspector-General of Police from his position as Assistant Inspector General of Police, A.I.G. Zone One, Kano. He worked for the previous president Olusegun Obasanjo's administration for three years in that position.
He was also a fellow of Nigeria's top military college, the National War College.
