A 20-year-old labourer named Umar Adamu was given 10 months in prison on Monday by a Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja for stealing three door frames valued $45,000.
Adamu, whose residence was omitted, is accused of stealing, criminal trespass, and criminal conspiracy.
Malam Sulyman Ola, the Area Court judge, however, offered Adamu a ₦30,000 fine alternative.
Ola mandated that the offender provide the plaintiff ₦30,000 as compensation.
Adamu had previously entered a guilty plea and requested mercy from the judge.
Earlier, Mr. Chinedu Ogada, the prosecution attorney, informed the court that the conviction was for an offence that occurred on July 28.
According to Ogada, the incident was reported to the Mabushi Police Station on the same day by the complainant, Nurudeen Dan Musa of Jahi Village, Abuja.
According to Ogade, the convict and a second person, now at large and going by the name of "Yellow," planned to break into the complainant's store in Jahi village.
He claimed that the inmate stole the frames from three doors.
According to the prosecutor, only one door frame was found on the convict during the police inquiry, and attempts to find the other ones proved fruitless.
According to Ogada, the offence violated the terms of Sections 97, 348, and 287 of the Penal Code.
