The governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, is keeping his campaign pledges to make the state one of Africa's most attractive and convenient places to live.
Since his election in 2019, the governor has worked diligently to implement the six T.H.E.M.E.S. development agenda pillars, which aim to improve the socioeconomic development of the State as well as the security of people and property.
“The acronym, T.H.E.M.E.S, represents the six pillars of the State’s strategic development agenda, namely: Traffic Management and Transportation, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, Entertainment and Tourism, as well as Security and Governance”.
The development of Lekki Estate Ferry Terminal in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, has given the administration more points.
The project's construction, which is scheduled to start in September 2022 and end in less than 12 months, aims to assist Lagos state in its mission to build a multi-modal transportation infrastructure by providing residents and businesses with a safe, effective, and affordable alternative mode of transportation on the state's inland waterways.
It is a part of the government's endeavour to address the state's transportation issues by fostering private sector investment in the creation of an effective integrated multi-modal transportation system. Lekki Estate Ferry Terminal Limited and Plaform Capital, which are investing millions of dollars in the project, are working on it together.
The project's infrastructure comprises shopping centres, parking lots with room for more than 200 automobiles, floating restaurants and lounges, as well as health, safety, and environmental services.
The project also seeks to construct a ferry terminal for the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation along the Admiralty Way waterfront in Lekki Phase 1, purchase cutting-edge passenger ferries, and run water transportation services for the locals of Lekki, Ajah, Igbo Efon, Ikota, Awoyaya, Lakowe, Sangotedo, and the surrounding areas.
Through cooperation under a Private Partnership (PP) with Lekki Ferry Estate, it is also planned to support the efforts of the state government in addressing the essential infrastructure shortfall and providing the people with the benefits of democracy.
Lekki Estate Ferry was established as an SPV to construct, administer, and run maritime passenger and freight services. With routes like Lekki to Marina and Lekki to Ikorodu, among others, the company will provide transportation services via its fleet of ferries.
