Muhammadu Buhari congratulates Nigerian student on winning AFS Award in US
Noel Ifeanyi Alumona, a student from Nigeria, has received praise from President Muhammadu Buhari for winning the 2022 AFS Award for Young Global Citizens and becoming the first African to do so since the award's inception in 1914.

On August 22, 2022, Femi Adesina, Special Advisor to the President (Media & Publicity), issued a press statement expressing his gratitude.

AFS Intercultural Programs, The Youth Assembly, and the United Nations Global Communications Department hosted International Youth Day at their New York offices, where the Nigerian student received the prize.

The Nigerian student, who is studying special education at Vanderbilt University in the United States and has already started foundations to support the needs of physically challenged, vulnerable, and underprivileged people, was praised by President Buhari for her responsiveness, kindness, and selflessness.

In recognition of his vigorous campaign to end violence against women and girls through proper orientation of boys on responsible behaviour, the president praised Mr. Alumona for his outstanding character and dedication to helping others, particularly for bringing attention to Nigeria on a global scale.

The student, who is an Obama Foundation Fellow, a United States Institute of Peace Fellow, and a delegate to the United Nations Youth Assembly, according to President Buhari, is on the right side of history because he is using his energy to inspire and support others and set up a foundation for charity.

The president prayed that the Almighty God will continue to lead, guide and grant Alumona wisdom to serve his country and humanity.
