The US Open, which will begin on Monday, August 29th, will not include tennis star Novak Djokovic, according to the player's official website.
Recall that the Serbian also skipped this year's Cincinnati Open, ATP Masters 1000, and Australia Open.
The reason the 21-time grand slam champion would not be competing in the competition is because he refused to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to a statement made by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, foreign nationals must "present proof of having completely immunised against COVID-19" in order to fly into the US.
The website of the player reads, “There are no events on the agenda at the moment.”
Djokovic’s absence from the competition would mean that he would have to wait till next year to surpass the most Grand Slam title won currently being held by Rafael Nadal with 22 who would be seeking to make it 23 in New York.
